Market before the 22/05 session: VN-Index retreats to the 1,890–1,900 point support zone, with cash flow continuing to diverge sharply

The session before 22/05 opened cautiously as VNINDEX closed around 1,896.9 points, down 0.9% from the previous session. Meanwhile, HNXINDEX rose to 264.4 points and UPCOMINDEX edged up to 126.0 points, showing that the divergence between exchanges remains quite pronounced.

The most notable development before the session was selling pressure from foreign investors, with net sell value exceeding VND 1,700 billion. This trend continued to weigh on large-cap stocks, preventing the broader index from breaking out decisively, even though some individual stock groups maintained their strength.

Liquidity and market breadth: money continues to rotate quickly

Liquidity on HOSE remained high across many leading stocks. The top stocks by volume included SHB with 37.6 million shares, VIX with 37.0 million shares, and HPG with 30.6 million shares, reflecting that cash flow is still present but concentrated in short rotation cycles.

On the upside, several stocks showed solid gains, including OGC (+6.7%), TNT (+6.8%), and DRH (+6.7%), continuing to attract attention. Conversely, notable decliners included HRC (-7.0%), VNE (-6.9%), and SBV (-6.5%), indicating that stock selection is occurring quickly.

Technical signals: some stocks maintain a positive trend

In the technical signal list, PSI recorded a composite score of 77.4, SAB scored 77.1, and PJC scored 76.9. These stocks are holding price bases better than the market average and may remain within the watch zone of short-term cash flow.

For HOSE, the 1,890–1,900 point zone is the nearest support to monitor closely, while 1,910–1,920 points serves as short-term resistance. If the index holds this base, a technical rebound could emerge in the morning session; conversely, sustained net selling would keep the market in a tug-of-war.

Mid and small-cap stocks continue to stand out

On HNX, the index rose 1.2% to 264.4 points, alongside strong gainers such as THD (+10.0%) and OCH (+9.8%). On UPCOM, VTE (+14.9%) and TRS (+14.9%) were standout performers, showing that buying momentum persists in speculative stocks and names with their own stories.

Overall, the 22/05 session is expected to remain volatile, with sharp intraday swings and strong divergence driven by news and technical signals. The 1,890–1,900 point zone of VNINDEX will be the key level to hold, while 1,910–1,920 points is the confirmation zone for a short-term recovery attempt.
