Pre-Session Developments

The 04/09 session opens with the market still holding the VN-Index 1827.7 point mark, although short-term volatility is leaning toward a cautious stance. The index fell 0.2% in the previous session, while the HNXINDEX dropped 0.9% to 282.2 points and the UPCOMINDEX edged up 0.2% to 127.8 points.

The most notable development was heavy net selling by foreign investors of roughly 1,600 billion VND, concentrated in the VN30 group. This puts direct pressure on banking, consumer and steel stocks, and raises the risk of volatility among large-cap stocks during the morning session.

Notable Stocks

On the positive side, several stocks on HOSE continued to stand out individually. The biggest gainers were TPC +6.9%, CCI +6.8% and CLC +6.7%.

Conversely, the biggest decliners were VDP -6.9%, VNG -6.7% and PJT -6.7%. This divergence suggests that capital has not fully exited the market, but is becoming highly selective on a stock-by-stock basis.

Liquidity and Technical Signals

Liquidity on HOSE remained concentrated in a handful of familiar names, with VIX reaching 31.2M shares, SHB reaching 29.9M shares and HPG reaching 27.0M shares. This indicates that money flow remains active, though trading is favoring short-term plays rather than spreading evenly across the market.

From a technical standpoint, some midcap and speculative stocks are showing more positive signals than the broader market. The most prominent is CMF with a composite score of 87.4, followed by VEA at 78.4 and GMX at 76.4.

HNX and UPCOM

Elsewhere, KST on HNX rose 10.0% to 15,300 VND, while GMX gained 5.2% to 17,500 VND. On UPCOM, MLC surged 39.3% to 26,600 VND, while PNT climbed 15.0% to 6,900 VND.

The improvement in several individual stocks on HNX and UPCOM shows that speculative money remains present, especially while the broader market is in a state of strong divergence.

Outlook Ahead of the Session

The most likely scenario for the morning session is a divided market opening, with the large-cap group under pressure from foreign net selling, while money continues to rotate into stocks with tight price bases and improving technical signals. If the VN-Index holds the 1,820-1,815 point support zone, a technical rebound could still emerge, but its range is likely to remain narrow.

The near-term resistance level to watch lies around 1,835-1,840 points. In this context, investors should prioritize observing the reaction of the VN30 group and the extent to which capital spreads into midcaps, rather than focusing solely on the headline index.
